Summary
|
The most popular and commercially successful of Cohen's early books, it established his poetic reputation within Canada. While the book contains some of his most gorgeous and richly romantic lyrics (Owning Everything, As the Mist Leaves No Scar), there is also a dark underside to many of the poems,
and images of death and violence form a steady counterpoint to the sensuousness of the love poetry. You Have the Lovers reads like a plot summary for most of Cohen's work in the 60s.
